5290 HG: Some Updates! Part I

Our first home: 5290 Project

A few more updates here and there.

We've been picking at several more projects around 5290 HG since we closed on the construction loan in December 2018. Here are a few updates!

  • try a garden! and flowers!
  • re-paint the front steps
  • we take on the garage
  • a gazebo fit for guests
  • the office is coming together
  • gut the guest bathroom! <-- will be its own post (the transformation deserves it!)

Planted a garden and things

Learned a lot in planting our first garden
- zucchini are uncontrollable and overwhelming
- deer are the worst and eat sunflowers
- plant asparagus and wait 3 years for anything you can eat
- the strawberries disappear quick; pick them early!
- rhubarb is fun
- lavender doesn't do well here

Here are a variety of pictures from our garden and other planted flowers:

This rhubarb plant is impressive; also, succulents from California!

Some of our bounty! Peppers, rhubarb, herbs, tiny strawberries...

This is the tallest my sunflowers grew before the deer chomped them up.

Wildflowers and lilies planted by the gazebo and our beautiful septic tank things; and a nice bouquet once flowered!

The zucchini TAKE OVER!

Bees LOVE the sedum, a hibiscus, and ONE surprise pumpkin!!

Re-paint the front steps

 AFTER ...

We take on the garage

All of this to be re-arranged and re-organized!

And moved onto this new unit.

A gazebo fit for guests

Sprucin' up the gazebo with some fun, durable furniture. A great place to hang in the summer.

The office is coming together

Trimming out the windows and building the cabinets.

We even bought a desk chair!

Gut the guest bathroom! <----- will be its own post (the transformation DESERVES it!)

Stay tuned for Part II of our 5290 HG Updates: the guest bathroom
