Van Trip & Cabin Time

Van Trip & Cabin Time: June 2020

Tuesday, June 23rd: Sam's birthday in Bayfield

Celebration cupcakes from Third Street Bakery for Sam's birthday.

Pack up the van and left Duluth about 4pm, headed to Bayfield, WI. Picnic dinner at a park on the calm, lovely Lake Superior. Drive to Whiting Rd trailhead for a chill evening. So thankful for the screen on the sliding door -- mosquitoes are HORRIBLE

Wednesday, June 24th: Ashwabay

Good night for Hayden! Comfy bed sitch. Woke up around 6, relaxing.

Very delicious pancakes, bacon, strawberries and banana for breakfast.  Little sprinkle, but Mary rode the Tsugar Daddy (6 mi) lap. Beautiful sunny day ahead. Sam did several laps while Mary and Hayden napped. The perfect trailhead sleep and morning rides situation!

Lunch from Ashland's Burger Barn, picnic at Plaza park. Pretty flowers. Now, on to Spencer's cabin!

Little Elsie and baby Hayden meet. Hang outside, inside, by the lake. Spencer and Sam put in the dock. Grilled chicken, brats, sweet corn for dinner. Lovely cabin escape.

Thursday, June 25th: Spencer's cabin

Beautiful morning! Spence and Sam put the dock in.

Afternoon siesta then lake time. Hayden likes the water! Tolerated her swimsuit!

Fun hanging out with little Elsie, playing and roaring with/at Hayden. Made pizzas to grill for dinner - delicious! Sam went for a bike ride. Hanging by the fire, made s'mores, ate marshmallows.

Elsie is very adorable with Hayden. Relaxing evening; watched Shrek.

Friday, June 26th: Back to Duluth

Another beautiful morning! Playing with Elsie and Betty. Braided Elsie's hair like Elsa.

Delicious breakfast, cleaned up the cabin and headed towards Winman trails. I rode a 6-mile or so loop, but it was heating up really fast so we opted to hit the road for home. Gyro lunch from the eclectic, weird gyro place in Ashland. Home by 2pm.

Hayden slept as well in the bassinet on the van bed as at home! Up once (anywhere from 130 to 330) and awake by 6am.

Great success of a trip.

Thanks to Betty, Spencer and Elsie for letting us hang out with you at the cabin!

Mobile Cabin III - Final Stretch

Winter 2020 - Mobile Cabin III

January 15 - 21, 2020

Final Stretch

Wednesday, 1.15.2020     Valley of Fire State Park

Sam biked in the Vegas area since Monday morning. I fly in to Vegas by 9am on Wednesday, my 32nd birthday! He picked me up from Vegas airport with Dusty all decorated with birthday banners, balloons, hat, SPKs, and senorita bread for my birthday. What a great guy :)

Breakfast at Coco's bakery, then drive NE to Valley of Fire State Park.
Petroglyphs, petrified wood, red rocks, red canyon walk, Fire Wave hike, mtn sheep! Awesome! Gorgeous, sunny day. Tropical Smoothie in St George, UT. Dinner at MeMe's cafe in Springdale - free crepe dessert with candle!

Drive up Kolob Terrace for BLM spot to park for the night.
An amazing and super special birthday, to say the least.

Thursday, 1.16.2020      Zion National Park Van oatmeal for breakfast. Quick stop at Springdale Visitor Center at the entrance of Zion National Park for hike Intel and water fill.

Drive through Zion Canyon! Beautiful day. Busy-ish, but reasonable.
Parked at the Grotto to hike to Scouts Lookout / Angel's Landing (went a little bit!). Blueberry
scone at the top. Heating up, got to 60! Perfect weather, great hike. Easy van lunch.
Drive up out of Zion, through the tunnel! Sam's favorite drive (Hwy 9). Kept up Hwy-89, scenic route then cut over on I-70, to take I-15 North toward Provo, UT. Quick dinner in the Provo madness, then over the mtns on Hwy-189.
I-80 for days until we pulled over to sleep west of Rock Springs, WY for the night due to icy, rainy, sketchy weather. Gonna be a cold one!

Friday, 1.17.2020      Fort Collins, CO Continental Divide, 6930 ft
Woke up early, hoping to beat the icy storm in WY. Made our way to Fort Collins, CO to spend the weekend with friends, Pat and Emily Kohan!

Breakfast with beignets at Lucille's - awesome. Surprise Pat at work! Party at the Kohan's, complete with charcuterie board and barrel-smoked/cooked meat ... more awesome. So excited to spend time with them!

Saturday, 1.18.2020      2020 National Western Stock Show!
Went to the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Watched Emily's friend compete in horse jumping, really cool! Rodeo was sold out. Dinner and drinks at Blue Moon Brewery, then walked to Mission Ballroom for a fun concert.

Sunday, 1.19.2020       Lonesome Dove + drive Dusty back
After a big day and late night Saturday, we followed up with a very chill, relaxing Sunday... complete with Megacouch! A few major accomplishments for today: watched the complete series of Lonesome Dove, walk to see neighbor horses, throw rocks on the thin ice of nearby reservoir, lovely but chilly sunset on the Front Range. Such fun to hang with the Kohan's!
Woke up early on Monday, 1.20.2020, to make the 15+ hour drive back to Duluth.

Thank you to our AWESOME hosts for such fun adventure :)

Definitely an amazing trip to finish up our Mobile Cabin adventures for this Fall and Winter out West.

Now, we'll be on a travel ban and stay close to home as we anxiously await the new human in our lives!
